 Neuropathy in the context of treatment of HIV usually refers to damage of the long nerves of the body by either the HIV virus or from the drugs. The toes and feet are usually first impacted and then the fingers most often both left and right at the same time. Numbness and tingling can occur as can pain and weakness. If HIV is the cause then HIV treatment is recommended whereas if one of the HIV drugs is causing the problem then switching the drugs around is recommended. It can be difficult to sort out the cause so help from a neurologist is often very useful since many conditions can cause those types of symptoms and treatment can be very challenging. KH | ||||||||
