Who should pay for side effect treatment ?

Dear Dr. Henry, should the manufacturing companys who make and produce anti aids drugs pay for the treatment of the side effects ? sincerely Gerald
Response from Dr. Henry
Interesting concept. If the cost of side effect treatment would have to be paid for by the manufacturer we probably would see most of the companies getting out of the business. If a medicine saves a persons life and allows them to earn a good living for decades the company doesn't get any of that either (the good part of treatment). If a person gets injured in a car accident then the car maker doesn't pay for that--that is a similar example. For almost anything done in medicine there are risks involved which are inherent to the biologic sciences. The risk/benefits are weighed for a particular intervention and a calculated decision is made. Thanks for that thought provoking question. KH
