numbness right upper leg
Jun 1, 2004

U?pper right leg, inside thigh to back have been sensitive to touch bruised/scalded feeling. No marks or fevers. HIV+ 13 yrs. Lot of friends lately with blood clots in legs; wonder what symptoms are. This has lasted about a week. I'm on Sustiva, Combivir, DDI, Tricor for elevated chol/trigly. Appreciate any info. John Hambleton

Response from Dr. Henry

Possibilities include a neuropathy of some sort (including due to herpes zoster prior to rash eruption)from a variety of causes. A blood clot might cause some swelling in the involved extemitiy, perhaps some tenderness or discoloration, and sometimes discomfort. In some cases the symptoms could be missing entirely or very non-specific. A thorough physical examination and history by your HIV specialist would be very useful to sort out the possible causes.
