Possibilities include a neuropathy of some sort (including due to herpes zoster prior to rash eruption)from a variety of causes. A blood clot might cause some swelling in the involved extemitiy, perhaps some tenderness or discoloration, and sometimes discomfort. In some cases the symptoms could be missing entirely or very non-specific. A thorough physical examination and history by your HIV specialist would be very useful to sort out the possible causes. KH
