3 weeks on meds, now very thirsty?
May 28, 2004

I am recently HIV+ with CD4 of 75 and viral of 6000,000 and coinfected with chronic HBV. Started Reyataz, Viread, Epivir, and Norvir 3 weeks ago. Alson taking Bactrium and Zythromax. The last two days I am on occassion very thirsty and the last couple days unable to quench the thrist. Is this a normal reaction to starting meds or should I be concerned about diabetes this early on?

Response from Dr. Henry

It would be unusual for severe diabetes to be triggered that quickly and severely on those meds. If you are also urinating alot and have increased glucose in your urine or blood then diabetes is a concern for sure. I have noticed that many patients on Norvir (even low dose boosting) feel like their mouth is dry and drink lots of fluids-sometimes with abnormal taste sensation. KH
