| Warning Apr 6, 2004 This is more of a warning than a question. I have recently had Cushing's syndrome diagnosed , due to a drug interaction between Ritonovir andd inhaled Fluticasone (asthma med).In went undetected for almost two years due to other health issues clouding the diagnosis. Ritonovir intereacts with many other drugs and HIV+ve people need to be aware of this and check with their prescribing doctors about interactions before it becomes a problem. I am now suffering from adrenal suppression which is worse than the Cushing's.In summary, we need to be more involved in every aspect of our management as even doctors are not infalible. Response from Dr. Henry
Thanks for posting that warning. I was aware the use of Fluticasone could rarely cause adrenal suppression but had not heard of it resulting in a Cushing's syndrome when used with ritonavir. I ran a drug interaction search and did not find much in the literature on that other than several isolated case reports. KH | |||
