Is it safe to have a yellow fever vaccination if you're HIV+? I am on Combivir and Nevirapine x two and a half years with an undetectable viral load and a CD4 count of 195 (last July) and otherwise relatively fit. thanks
Response from Dr. Henry
If you have been symptomatic with your HIV infection and/or have a CD4 count < 200 (as you indicate) I would caution against use of the yellow fever vaccine which is a live attenuated virus. If exposure seems highly likely you should discuss the pros and cons with your HIV doc.
