Response from Dr. Boyle
Some studies have produced some preliminary evidence that regimens that include 2 protease inhibitors, with no nucleoside ananlogs, may decrease the risk of lipodystrophy. Other studies have not found this to be true, and the long-term efficacy and safety of these regimens has not been fully established. There is also some evidence that thymidine-sparing regimens that include a non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor and 2 non-thymidine nucleoside analogs (i.e., not AZT or d4T) may also limit the risk of lipodystrophy. | |||||||||
