| scuba diving and HAART Nov 8, 2003 Hi I recently attempted to go scuba diving. After filling in a medical info form, the instructor wasn't prepared to let me dive without medical advice. Is there any evidence of anti retrovirals having any side effects relevant in this situation? Sorry, i know it's a bit esoteric but I want to try again and not have to lie on the forms. |

Response from Dr. Henry
A person who is doing well on a standard HAART regimen should be able to scuba dive (if a history of serious CNS problems such as toxoplasmosis or ear infections/sinusitis should discuss furtherwith your HIV doc). In general I see no reason why the use of HAART should have any impact on diving. HIV status is relevant in case there is an accident so that first responders can optimize care while protecting themselves. KH | |||||||||
