Diabetes progressing??
Oct 26, 2003

Hi Dr.Boyle, I consider my diagnosis of Diabetes type 2 to be a side effect of the PI's I started in 1995. Would you consider this statement and let me know if you agree? "Since diabetes is a progressive illness, a diabetic that maintains a good glucose level of 140 or less, consistently with insulin and pills, can stop the progression of diabetes?" Or does diabetes always damage the body in some way? Thanks for your wonderful work. A Fan, Todd

Response from Dr. Boyle

The evidence is pretty clear that with better control of the diabetes you can signficantly lower, although you may not completely eliminate, your risk for end-organ damage. So, diabetics should make efforts to control their glucose, since that control does matter, and the closer you can get it to normal, the better.
