receding gums and tooth loss with lypodystrophy?
Oct 17, 2003
My gums seem to be receding with the loss of facial fat. I am concerned that this will lead to tooth loss although my teeth are not loose. My dentist is too "busy" to see me except every 9 months. Do you have any info about a correlation between receding gums, lipo., HAART? Thank you for your time. Scott

I have not observed that association. Gum health is very important so I try to have patients seen regularly by an HIV friendly dentist for gum health checks. Flossing and brushing with medium bristle brush (often with baking soda/peroxide tooth paste) and avoiding tobacco products is recommended. Often a dental hygienist in an office can take care of the gum evaluations when seen regularly. KH
