| New Fill Illegal? Oct 8, 2003 I know people in the U.S. and Canada are getting doctors to treat them with New Fill to help their facial wasting. If this isn't FDA approved then is this illegal? How could the doctors be doing this legally? |

Response from Dr. Conway
In general terms, doctors do all sorts of things that are NOT approved by the FDA or other regulatory authorities. One of my favorites is that there are NO drugs approved for the treatment of chronic sinusitis. Thus, every time someone prescribes antibiotics to treat this condition, the health care practitioner is doing something that is NOT approved by the FDA!!! The use of NewFill (or anything else) without the approval of the FDA is an off label use of a drug, for which a doctor (discussing it with the patient) can choose to take responsibility. | |||||||||
