Alvan Fisher, M.D. Brown University, School of Medicine stated in an answer on this web site that the drug finisteride (Proscar & Propecia) should not be taken with hiv antiviral & protease inhibitors. Is this answer to a question posted on Feb 10, 2001 correct? I am taking Proscar with my anti virals and Kaletra and have elevated prolactin levels.
Response from Dr. Henry
I am unaware of any serious interaction between finisteride and Kaletra. I am always cautious and on guard for unexpected interactions. I have patients who are safely using those medications together. KH
