connection with Reiter's Syndrome
Feb 8, 2003
What can you tell me about Reiter's and HIV. I've been told it is frequently the first presentation of AIDS. If so, what is the average time from exposure to HIV and presentation of this Reiter's?
Response from Dr. Henry
Reiters is occasionally seen with HIV (low rate overall) and is rarely the first presentation for HIV Infection (< 1%). The vast majority of Reiter's cases are NOT associated with HIV infection (? linkage to Chlamydia or other infections). For the relatively few cases of Reiters that appear to be HIV-associated the time course between infection and manifestation of Reiters can be quite varable. KH
