Response from Dr. Henry
There is less data about complications and treatment of persons infected only with HIV-2. The disease course may be slower than is typical for HIV-1. The non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (i.e. nevirapine or efavirenz) may not be as effective. Regions of the world with more HIV-2 (Africa) have high rates of TB infection which is probably the biggest concern (if exposed but not treated consider a prophylactic course of INH). Your high CD4 count is a good sign and indicates probably good function of your immune system. KH | |||||||||
