| Twitching/MS connection..? Aug 14, 2002 I suffer from HIV Mylopathy/polyneuropathy (spelling?). Recently while falling asleep for the night or for a nap I have started twitching...My body jumps like I'm being startled. When I lost my ability to walk w/o use of a walker the spinal tap show an antigen similar to that seen w/MS should I be worried? |

Response from Dr. Henry
There are numerous neurologic conditions seen in HIV infected persons which can impact the peripheral nerves. The cause can be related to HIV itself, an HIV-related infection such as CMV or herpes viruses, or due to drug toxicity. Sorting out the diagnosis and finding the best treatment often requires the help of a good HIV-experienced neurologist. Muscle damage can also be involved directly or indirectly and can result in some of the symptoms you describe. I would try to get a thorough work-up to sort out. KH | |||||||||
