I was diagnosed last October with microsporidiosis. I have less than 20 CD4's, and VL 250,000. This past month, the diarrhea has increased, and is non-stop, I've just had a colonoscopy, and am waiting for results. Is there anything BESIDES tincture of opium, immodium, lomotil, and Source Qi (herbal remedy) I could stop for this?

Treating your underlying HIV infection to improve your immune system is an important aspect of therapy. Albendazole helps a modest percentage of patients. For intractable diarrhea, Sandostatin injections can be helpful. Also, morphine, increased fiber intake, calcium supplements all can help some. There is also an alternative product from a company called Shamon which is Provir (I think) which helps some people with diarrhea. KH
