| PEP treatment and test results Jul 30, 2002 I am a man who had unprotected receptive oral sex with another man about 6 weeks ago (with pre-seminal fluid entering my-mouth, which I tired to spit out and I washed my mouth with water and soap about 5 minutes after wards). I started on PEP (combivir) 30 hours after the exposure and stopped after 28 days. I tested myself after 5 weeks and the results were negative. I know that normally test results after 5 weeks are about 98 accurate. I am wondering does PEP reduce this accuracy rate since it may have reduced the number of Antigen and thus immune response in the body for this period? |

Response from Dr. Henry
There is not much specific data on that issue in the setting of PEP. I would recheck at 6 months for further reassurance. | |||||||||
