PEP treatment and test results
Jul 30, 2002
I am a man who had unprotected receptive oral sex with another man about 6 weeks ago (with pre-seminal fluid entering my-mouth, which I tired to spit out and I washed my mouth with water and soap about 5 minutes after wards). I started on PEP (combivir) 30 hours after the exposure and stopped after 28 days. I tested myself after 5 weeks and the results were negative.
I know that normally test results after 5 weeks are about 98 accurate. I am wondering does PEP reduce this accuracy rate since it may have reduced the number of Antigen and thus immune response in the body for this period?

There is not much specific data on that issue in the setting of PEP. I would recheck at 6 months for further reassurance.
