post nasal drip JB
Jan 8, 2001

Hello. I read the recent post and answer regarding nasal drip and sinus symptoms in HIV positive individuals. I am a person who has recently tested negative for HIV but spend perhaps too much time thinking about "rare" or "undetectable" strains of HIV. I have had a post nasal drip for a long time (probably since before I ever did anything to put myself at risk for HIV). Yet the association between sinus problems and HIV scares me. Isn't this condition pretty common in the general population? Should a person who has this be concerned about HIV? Thank you for your time.

Response from Dr. Bartlett

Postnasal drip is an incredibly common symptom in the general population and is not specific for HIV. I encourage you to keep safe, and be reassured by your repeatedly negative HIV tests.

John A. Bartlett, M.D.
