| Hepatitis Vaccine and Elisa Accuracy Jan 25, 2001 I ahd a partial vaccine followed by another partial vaccine of Hepatitis B at least 6 or more years ago. I thought i was having a reaction so it was discontinued and then restarted- -at this time I am a little fuzzy on the sequence -I believe it might have been 2 shots amd then one or two a year or so later. would this "throw off" an ELISA antibody test? I am presently negative at 5 months = 22 weeks . I was wondering i f I could be getting a false negative because of the hepatitis vaccines as described as best I could recall. |

Response from Dr. Henry
Are you referring to an HIV test (ELISA). Generally vaccination for hepatitis B has no impact on HIV antibody tests. If you are talking about positivity for anti-hepatitis B surface antigen then you might have become positive for that due to immunity induced by several hepatitis B vaccination.
