JG, You're right. I believe I said that NONE of the studies shows any evidence of an association between "protease paunch" and elevated cortisol production (Cushing's syndrome) despite the physical similarities between the two. I had overlooked research by Alfred Sapse who feels that elevated cortisol is indeed the problem. However, that hypothesis conflicts with multiple other studies in which cortisol levels and dexamethasone suppression tests (used to diagnose Cushing's Syndrome) have been normal. In short, I think we're at the very earliest phase of understanding this problem. JG | |||
