H1N1 and my kids
Oct 30, 2009
I am HIV Poz cd4 538 26% UD viral load was in the hospital in Feb 09 with PCP when I found out my status. I have had a good recovery so far. My kids are scheduled to get the Nasil spary for H1N1 and from what I have read there is a chance I could get it from the spray. I understand I should get the injection. So my question is the only thing availabe for my kids is the spray should I not get it due to my condition. I am not schedule to get the injection till mid November due to supplies and my kids are schedule early November. What to do.

Response from Dr. Henry

Good question for which there is no clear definitive answer. Should discuss with your HIV provider who knows your situation best. Risk for getting serious H1N1 (prior to accessing H1N1 vaccine) from vaccination of kids with spray version of vaccine may be less than risk for getting it from community/household exposure depending on H1N1 levels in your community.
