Response from Dr. Henry

Truvada is generally well tolerated with stomach cramps/diarrhea occuring in a small subset of patients. Stocrine (efavirenz) often causes sleep/dream/central nervous system symptoms during the first 1-4 weeks then diminishing. 90%+ of patients tolerate Stocrine/Truvada with minimal to no side effects after the first 4 weeks which is why is has been such a widely used and effective treatment. One recent study suggested that those side effects can be minimized safely by initially using a lower dose of the efavirenz during the first 10-14 dayss-that recommendation awaits further data. KH
