Why zero side effects on Atripla?
Aug 5, 2009
Is Atripla identical to Sustiva/Truvada? I was on Sustiva/Truvada for 4 months as my first line therapy and when my VL became undetectable my doctor switched me to Atripla. My concern is that immediately after the swith alll the side effects (dizziness, drunken feeling) stopped, I wonder if this new drug is less effective. Thanks for your answer.

Response from Dr. Henry

The active drugs in Atripla are the same as Sustiva/Truvada. It may be possible that with the different formulation the levels of the drugs may be slightly different and in some perhaps less side effects. Switches from Sustiva/Truvada to Atripla generally go well with little risk for virologic failure if doing well on the Sustiva/Truvada prior to the switch. KH
