Sick woozy spells for 4 months
Apr 1, 2009

I have been having sick woozy spells since Dec. 2008. I feel this everyday now and I am hardly working. The really bad spells include a rush that goes through my head that makes me feel very ill and can just appear out of no where.I feel very fatigued/sick everyday. At Christmas my kidneys failed from a kidney obstruction. I had small kidney stones (I knew from a sonogram last Sept.) but never saw one pass. The Doctors thought the renal failure might be from the Tenofovir in my meds. They are still not sure on that. In Dec. also when my Dr. did blood work, she find out that my Hemoglobin/Hematocrit level was very elevated. The levels have come down a lot but they are still elevated. My EPO was very low around the time of the kidney failure, it is normal again. My T Cell count has been over a 1000 for a long time and my viral load has been undetechable. They just did my regular HIV bloodwork and added on the genotype test. Will get those results back this wee. I am now on Norvir, Epzicom and Prezista. After I take the Epzicom, the woozyness seems to get worse for several hours afterwards. I just had my kidney stents taken out this week that they put in after the renal failure. They will check me in 3 weeks to see if the ureters are OK or dilated. In the middle of all this that I have on my plate already, a testicle hernia that I had repaired in the 1980's now needs to be redone, how much more can I handle? I have had scans all over my body to look for cancer. I have had a brain CT Scan and a MRI, they all showed nothing. I am having a Neuro MRI in a couple of weeks just to make sure they do not see anything new. I also had a Echo Stress test done too, showed nothing. I have an appt. with a hemotologist for bloodwork/consultation at the end of the month also. I have been HIV poz. 20+ years. Do you think that the bad spells could be from long term HIV or possibly something else? I know with all my problems, it could be hard to say....Is there anything that you think we might have missed? My Doctor is at an HIV clinic in a county hospital here. I have no insurance and everything takes so long to happen, tests, seeing the Dr., etc. I am at their mercy right now, and my Dr. is on maternity leave. They just cannot figure this out after all this time. Any information/ideas would be appreciated....Thanks.

Wow you have been through alot.If you still have some degree of renal failure you may need to dose adjust the Epzicom since the 3TC in it is cleared by the kidney. Many patients who have been through all you have would have fatigue and dizziness that may be hard to pin on one problem. Lack of energy can be due to physical deconditioning, vitamin D deficiency, other hormonal disorders and many other HIV and non-HIV related conditions. KH
