What can I expect?
Jul 13, 2008

Dear Dr. Henry, I started HIV meds two years ago. Till now I have chronic diarrhea and a little bit of lipodystrophy but I got used to and can bear it. My question is - after these 2 years do I have to expect to develop the most common severe side effects like pancreatitis, lactic acidosis and peripheral neuropathy or something else? And if so in what case? I am not on a special diet and do not take regularly other specific medicines except Kaletra,Videx,Epivir. Thanks for your professional help!

Response from Dr. Henry

For patients stable and doing well in Kaletra/Epivir/Videx the year to year complication rate is likely to be low (< 5% serious new problem/year) though my knowledge/experience with that regimen is low since most published data and my own experience does not involve your regimen (usually utilizing a drug other than Videx such as tenofovor or abacavir and less often AZT).
