A Bit Worried
May 23, 2008

Hello,

I've been on Raltegravir (2 per day),Abacavir (2 per day) and 3TC (2 per day) and my CD4 is 750 and my viral load is undectable,I know that these drugs are working but I'm concerned about some side effects, recently I've had more headaches,ie: waking up with a headache, it would go away and then return, I recently did my usual bloodwork and my doctor called me (quite concerned) asking me if I was okay, I said I was and why?, My doctor told me that my White cells were extremly high, was I ill, or did I experience any pnemounia like symptoms, no just headaches, My question is what should I do?, I've had pnemounia 3 times in the last 2 years but these latest symptoms did not feel the same and I had no fever and my lungs were okay. I know that asking for your input is rather vague but what could I ask my doctor to test for to find out what is occurring?, I live a fairly healthy lifestyle, no rec drugs or booze, fairly decent shape and I'm within my weight range for my age (41) and height 5'11.

Thanks

Jim

Response from Dr. Henry

Many conditions can result in a high white blood cell count. The type of cells that are increased are important. If other symptoms (such as fever, chills, sweats) develop I would request an evaluation and/or a repeat set of blood tests. Your risk for HIV/AIDS related problems should be very low since you are doing well on treatment but you can still develop many non-HIV/AIDS related problems like the general population. KH
