To resume or not
May 14, 2008

Hi. Positive for 10 years. Never been good with meds except for first few years, then went to month on month off. Has now been 2 years no meds, feel fine no infections. Am 51 marriage is in toilet and not tremendously happy with life. But I am happy I have no fat hump, emiciated face, heart problems, toilet marathon and on and on. I do not tollerate meds ( of any kind) very well at all So numbers are I guess 30 T and who knows VL 45K Why bother to go an yet some "new" fantastic meds to get better numbers and risk all the associated side effects. Seems Poeple should be able to choose quality over quantity.. Man I recall my brief stint on Sustiva..Should have sold it on the street as a Hallucingenic..

Response from Dr. Henry

Many of the newer medications such as raltegravir (Merck integrase inhibitor) and maraviroc (Pfizer R5 inhibitor) are generally very well tolerated and can help anchor a regimen that would likely be effective and quite different from anything you have tried previously. Becoming ill from any of the 20+ AIDS defining conditions as well as HIV related (but non AIDS) health problems (such as cancer and heart disease) can be ruinous to a person's qualty of life, life threatening, and good looks spoiling and generally is worth great effort to avoid since sometimes hard to reverse course once illness has struck.
