		Long term prophylaxis side effects Feb 13, 2008 I'm a healthcare worker and in 2003, I received prophylactic treatment following a needle stick injury. 3&6 month blood tests were -ve for HIV. Since then however, I have been diagnosed with Chronic Idiopathic Urticaria and Anxiety disorder. Is it possible that they are directly related to the prophylaxis and if so, is there a treatment to conteract the long term effects, particularly for the urticaria which is responsive only to systemic steroids - (which I'm trying to reduce due to long term effects of those!) CBT and citalopram have allowed me to control my anxiety. Unfortunately, I cannot recall the specific treatment that I received, it was administered IV within 72 hours of the incident. 		Response from Dr. Henry I have not observed nor seen published any data describing side effects such as you have described from a short course of ART persisting for 5 years after the drugs are taken. If any reader is aware of any published data on that please post. KH
