fuzeon bumps
Sep 26, 2006
exactly what is the make-up of the isr(bumps under the skin). unless i massage them on a daily basis they last more than a month. what do you think of trying an ultra sound device on them to possible break them up and help them disperse? i am using the biojector and am not supose to massage the site at the time of injection. if the bump is residual fuzeon would ultra sound spread it
around? fuzeon is a great drug and has worked great for me since 2003, however i don't believe roche has put forth enough effort in its delivery system.

Response from Ms. Salisbury

Hi,
You are correct. The bumps are usually residual Fuzeon. I think massage after 1 to 2 hours after giving the Fuzeon via the bioinjector would not create any problems. The massage helps disperse the fluid that collects under the skin in the fatty tissue. I also think heat would be a good idea to help with circulation and therefore aid in absorption of the Fuzeon. I have to be honest with you: I am not sure about using ultrasound. I know it is ordered for muscle strains to reduce inflammation. I think if you have the opportunity to have this procedure, it would not hurt to try it.
I think Roche is also stumped by the injection site reactions. The molecular structure of Fuzeon is so large they were unable to reduce the volume of fluid per injection. I know they are working on a once-a-week formulation. I am not sure what phase of clinical trials it is in.
I am glad to hear you are doing so well on the Fuzeon. I have many patients that also improved dramatically with it. Take care.
Carol
