bum gone!
Aug 7, 2009
Hi,
I've been on treatment since 97 and d4T did its bit on my face, bum, legs and arms. My face has been 'fixed' with New Fill. This has been done in the NHS(I live in the UK). My HIV doctor has prescribed me Steroids which has marginally helped on my arms and legs. However, my bum has gone forever!. What can I do? Is there any recommeded procedure(injections, implants, etc) that I could explore? My doctor in the UK is not aware of any. I'm taking now Atripla (dropped d4T 5 years ago) and my CD4 count is 490 and undet.
Many thanks

Response from Dr. Henry

Regaining fat lost from "AZT butt" (also D4T butt) is problematic. Sometimes genetics and again play a role as well (what do your similarly aged relatives look like in that department). Some of the loss of bulk can be muscle so targeting exercise may help a bit. Loss of fat over that large an area is not easily managed by plastic surgery. Use of diabetic drugs like pioglitizone may help some patients but results have been mixed so fat. KH
