when might Tesomorelin be approved?
Jun 26, 2009
I read that an application for approval of Tesomorelin was made to the FDA on June 1. If they find that it is safe and effective, when might it be approved? Are there still any studies on it in which I would have a chance of getting the med (instead of the placebo? My belly is big with intraabdominal fat without sub cutaneous fat.
Thanks

Response from Dr. Henry

Human growth hormone releasing factor (tesamorelin) has been shown in several studies to have a modest effect on decreasing intra-abominal fat in HIV+ person on ART. The drug has to be injected and seems to be well tolerated over the first 12 months of use. The benefits appear to wear off if the drug is stopped and the price is likely to be high though that is not yet determined. Whether insurance companies will pay for it even if approved is also uncertain. KH
