   Response from Dr. Henry

The weight gain seen with starting effective HIV meds is usually on the order of 3-10 pounds in the first year and can be impacted by diet/exercise so recommend working with your HIV specialist/dietician/exercise trainer to minimize treatment related weight changes right from the beginning. The advantages to your overall health from effective HIV treatment including quality of life and energy levels have been consistently well documented. KH
