Muscle cramps and stiffness
Nov 23, 2008
I have been experiencing muscle stiffness, soreness and cramps for about a month. My HIV medications have not changed in 6 months, but other medications have been added by different doctors. Currently Im taking Epzicom + Reyataz + Norvir; also 300mg Effexor XR, 300mg Seroquel (added recently), 1gm Valtrex, 150mg Doryx (added recently), and 25mg Lopressor. Ive noticed that I tire easily and the number of times I have to urinate has increased.
Can you offer any insight into which of these medications could be causing the muscle issues?

Response from Dr. Henry

The protease inhibitors you are taking can increase the levels of the Effexor and Seroquel leading to increased risk for side effects-some anticholingergic side effects can include bladder dysfunction. A general health evaluation including checking an EKG, muscle enzymes, urinary tract status is recommended with those meds and symptoms. KH
