ignoring me?
Aug 2, 2000

I wrote a very honest and open question a few days ago and I keep checking for an answer. None so far and I have read rick's answers and others on this site and it may seem obvious to you all but not to me.

I am the guy who had two sexual experiences in a year and I waited a year after the last to get tested via Elisa only, and i also was tested 8x during the year. During the year I engaged in NO sexual contact with anyone what so ever. My results were negative. I am confused whether I have done all that I can? It seems confusing to me. Some say elisa is enough or sufficient. Others say to be sure I could tale a antigen test or something, still others on here from what I can tell would say pcr or dna. The infectious disease doctor I saw said the Elisa is the gold standard and I am negative and to move on.

Is this correct is all I want to know.

I hope I am not writing to dead air again...I will check tomorrow to see.

Thanks.

Response from Mr. Kull

I'm sorry that you feel ignored!!! We get lots of questions here and I do my best to answer ones that have not been answered before. Unfortunately, I will not be able to answer ALL of your questions. But I'll do my best!

In terms of your concerns:

1) The ELISA/EIA is the gold standard. No other HIV tests are necessary.

2) You've been tested eight times. I'd say you're negative.

3) Questions very similar to yours have been answered here many times. Check out the Frequently Asked Questions for information about antibody tests.

4) Anxiety or worry often interferes with a person's ability to process reliable information and "move on" as your doctor suggested. If you still feel worried about having HIV after my response, I would suggest that you chat with a mental health professional about your concerns.

Best.
