Wait or have it checked?
Dec 12, 2001

I have a sore that seemed to just be there one evening - it looks maybe like a small chancre right below my clitoris, however is painful, unlike symptoms of syphilis would suggest. I doubt it was irritation from sex but maybe could have been caused by irritation from dry masturbation. I have slept with one partner for over two years, and within these two years engaged in oral sex with one other man. Before that was my first partner which was also a monogomous relationship in which I have no doubt was clean (w/o STDs). Therefore I am doubting an STD but due to advice I've read here so far I don't know whether to wait and see if/when it heals or to go have it checked immediately while it's still there. Some of the pain/sensitivity also seems to be from the fact that my clitoris seems to be erect-which could just be because it's swollen? Either way, I would really appreciate some advice. I just didn't know if not having it checked by a doctor would be ignorantly letting an STD go untreated, or if I am jumping to conclusions and should wait this out.

Response from Mr. Kull

If you think that this sore could in any way be related to a sexually transmitted infection, then you should go and have it checked out by a doctor while the sore is still present. This is important because having an examination while the symptoms are present is often the only way to diagnose a sexually transmitted infection.

You don't have much to lose; if it isn't a sexually transmitted infection, at least you'll find out and that may help reduce your anxiety.
