Have you ever heard PCR hiv+ in spite of ELISA hiv- at 8th month? I've tested ELISA over 5 times after exposure. This month, I got Shockn result PCR+ and CD4 460copy cell. Now I'm testing Western blot to confirm. I believe That Low CD4 is mental shock result. If western blot's hiv-, May I think that was false hiv+ pcr? If it's not, Is it possible thing not to able to produce Antibody though CD4 >460? That RT-PCR was just One time Test.

Response from Mr. Kull

I try not to make a habit of interpreting people's HIV test results over the internet; it's a complicated process that I leave to medical doctors.

I do know that PCR tests should NOT be relied upon as the only piece of information in the puzzle of diagnosing infection. PCR tests have a higher rate of false positives than the antibody tests (the actual viral count may be important in determining this; PCR tests are not read as positive or negative). It is more likely that your eight month ELISA was accurate and your PCR was not. You should also not rely on the Western Blot test result without looking at your ELISA result because people who are HIV negative can have a negative ELISA and positive Western Blot. Your CD4 count of 460 is not indicative of infection and is within normal range; that will have nothing to do with you producing HIV antibodies.

Most importantly, what is your risk for infection? Why are you using alternative testing despite your highly reliable negative antibody test after eight months?
