abortion/aids?
Jul 2, 1997

when an abortion is performed, do they usually automatically test for aids? also can having more than one abortion affect future chances for having healthy children? Thanks for your help

Response from Mr. Sowadsky

Hi. Thank you for your question. When a woman gets an abortion, they are not normally tested for HIV infection. The posting, "Blood Test" discusses the circumstances that a physician would normally do HIV testing. Depending on the state and country a person lives in, under some circumstances, HIV testing is mandatory. For example, in the USA, testing is mandatory for anyone donating blood, or entering the military. However, I am not aware of mandatory HIV testing when a woman gets an abortion.

Regarding the issue of health risks of multiple abortions on having children, I am not an expert in this field of medicine. Let me therefore refer you to the following references on this topic. You may also want to discuss this matter with your personal physician.
