I was bitten by mosquitos on the thigh and had to scratched it to ease the itch. Thus this resulted in skin tear/abrasion (no blood visible). However, it was probably after a GOOD 5-6 hours before I was involved in intimate body hugging and the vaginal fuild may have contacted the torn skin. Please advise the chances of getting HIV if the partner is positive (partner status not known)? Thanks.

Generally, when I talk about the risk of transmission through a particular activity, the assumption is that the person is infected. There is little point in talking about the risk of transmission through contact with an uninfected person.

HIV is not known to be spread through intimate hugging, even when vaginal fluids might come into contact with a person's skin. HIV needs to come into contact with the mucous membranes or bloodstream, and it is unlikely that this happened in your case. Sexual transmission of HIV is known to be spread through the following three ways:

1) Anal sex, receptive or insertive

2) Vaginal sex, receptive or insertive

3) Oral sex, receptive fellatio or insertive cunnulingus (transmission to the person whose mouth is on the genitals)

If your sexual behavior does not fall into any of the above categories, then it is EXTREMELY unlikely that you will become infected through sexual contact.

In case anyone is wondering, HIV cannot be transmitted through mosquitoes either.
