Rash
Jan 13, 1997

When does the rash associated with HIV occur? Is it possible to get it seven and a half weeks post exposure? What does it look and feel like? How likely are symptoms to occur this late?

Response from Mr. Sowadsky

Hi. Thank you for your question.

A description of the rash associated with recent HIV infection are described in greater detail in the question "Acute Retroviral Syndrome" dated January 3, 1997. As you will see in that question, the rash associated with recent HIV infection (as well as other symptoms of recent HIV infection) occur within the first 6 weeks after infection. It would be very rare for these symptoms to occur later than this.

If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact the Centers for Disease Control at 1.800.232.4636 (Nationwide).
