Warts/Molluscum via Blood? Dec 14, 1996 Hello. Can a person get genital warts or molluscum contagiosum be transmitted via blood? If so, does the current blood supply check for these diseases? |

 Hi. Thank you for your question. Neither Genital Warts nor Molluscum Contagiosum are transmitted via the blood. Both of these viral Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STD's) are transmitted by direct physical contact with the growths they cause. Since they are not transmitted via the blood, there is no need for testing the blood supply for these viruses. The blood supply is however checked for other STD's that can be transmitted via blood. These blood tests include Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C (only occasionally sexually transmitted), HIV-1, HIV-2, HTLV-I, HTLV-II, and syphilis. However, both Genital Warts and Molluscum Contagiosum are NOT transmitted via the blood.
