Hepatitis B and Hepatitis A immunization boosters
Mar 24, 1999

After how many years could boosters be needed for Hep B and Hep A immunization?

Response from Mr. Sowadsky

Thank you for your question.

In regard to the Hepatitis A and Hepatitis B vaccines, at this time, booster shots are not usually necessary. After completing the initial vaccination series, in the vast majority of people, both of these vaccines are believed to provide lifelong protection against these viruses. Booster immunizations would only be recommended in the rare instances where laboratory tests have shown that a person has not adequately responded to the vaccines. Unless a doctor has specifically told you that you are one of those rare individuals who has not adequately responded to the vaccines, booster immunizations are usually not necessary.

If you have any further questions, please feel free to call the Centers for Disease Control at 1.800.232.4636 (Nationwide).
