Vasectomy and HIV/STD's
Sep 13, 1999
Can a male who is HIV Positive, who has a had a vasectomy, transmit HIV and other STD's during unprotected sex?
Response from Mr. Sowadsky
Thank you for your question. A vasectomy (a form of male sterilization to prevent pregnancy) will not prevent the transmission of HIV, nor other sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). So even if you had a vasectomy, you are still capable of transmitting HIV and other STDs to your sexual partners (assuming you are infected with HIV or other STDs).
If you have any further questions, please feel free to call the Centers for Disease Control at 1.800.232.4636 (Nationwide).
