Question #1: proper use of a condom Question #2: Information on how to use a condom
Apr 15, 1997

to rick, I just wanted you to explain how to put on and lube it.thanks

Hi! Where on the Internet can I find seriously and good information about "how to use a condom" ? Thank you very much!

Response from Mr. Sowadsky

Hi. Thank you for your questions.

There's many, many places on the Internet that have gone into detail of how to use a condom. Some of those include:

The Body Safer Sex Information area: Basic Facts About Condoms and Their Use in Preventing HIV Infection and Other STDsfrom the Centers For Disease Control minisite at The Body, and my article: So Many Condoms, So Little Time

Planned Parenthood Condom Webpage: http://www.igc.apc.org/ppfa/condom4.html

The Safer Sex Page: http://www.safersex.org/condoms.html Consumer Reports Condom Article: http://www.tezcat.com/~alan/html/condoms.html This report is also available on many online services including America Online, CompuServe, and Prodigy. There is an update to this article in the January 1996 issue of Consumer Reports. My suggestion to you is to visit each of these places, which goes into detail on how to use condoms.

I do want to add the following information. Latex condoms require the use of a water-based lubricant. If you use a male polyurethane condom (sold under the brand name "Avanti"), you can use any type of lubricant with these. Although oil based lubricants can damage a latex condom, polyurethane condoms can use any type of lubricant, including oil based lubricants.

If you have any further questions, please feel free to call the Centers for Disease Control at 1.800.232.4636 (Nationwide).
