How does a woman use a dental dam when having sex with another woman? I know what they look like, but I have no idea how to use one. Can you give a descriptive answer?

Hi. Thank you for your question. A dental dam is a 6 inch by 6 inch piece of latex that is normally used in dentistry for various dental procedures. Several years ago, it was suggested that these can be used to prevent the transmission of HIV and other Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STD's), while giving a woman oral sex, or engaging in oral-anal sex (rimming). The dental dam is to placed directly over the vagina (or rectum), and acts as a barrier while engaging in these activities. Because the dam is made out of latex, it would prevent infection with HIV/STD's. There are several problems with the use of dental dams; very few places sell them, you cannot see through them, and since they are made of latex, they have a taste that many people do not like.
A better alternative to dental dams is to use Saran/Plastic wrap. Plastic wrap will also act as an effective barrier against infection with HIV and other STD's. Plastic wrap is readily available in most supermarkets, is inexpensive, is not embarrassing to buy, you can see through them, and it does not have a bad taste to it. Simply take a piece of plastic wrap (large enough to completely cover the vagina or rectum), and cover the area. You hold the plastic wrap in place with your hands. You then use the plastic wrap as a barrier against infectious diseases, while giving the woman oral sex, or while having oral-anal sex.
