| worried Nov 14, 2001 Ryan, I'm worried that I may have HIV and infected my girlfriend. I recently got a blow job from a guy without wearing a rubber (my first homosexual experience), I don't know his status. The next evening I had vaginal sex with my girlfriend. My doctor told me that it would be virtually impossible for me to get infected from getting a blow job inthe first place and that I probably wouldn't be able to infect someone else that soon after exposure. is this correct information? |

Response from Mr. Kull
It sounds like you received accurate information from your doctor. Here's why: Sexual transmission of HIV is known to be spread through the following three ways: 1) Anal sex, receptive or insertive 2) Vaginal sex, receptive or insertive 3) Oral sex, receptive fellatio or insertive cunnulingus (transmission to the person whose mouth is on the genitals) If your sexual behavior does not fall into any of the above categories, then it is EXTREMELY unlikely that you will become infected through sexual contact. As you can see, there is no specific evidence that HIV is transmitted through receiving oral sex. The main reason for this is that saliva is not implicated as a fluid that transmits HIV. Since there is no evidence that anyone has been infected with HIV through receiving oral sex, the odds of infection are (practically) zero. RMK | |||
