Protection when fingering and fisting

Aug 20, 1999

Mr. Sowadsky

Do you know if they make finger condoms. It seems to me that inserting a finger into someones vagina is unsafe sex! We hear all this talk about condoms but a person could have a scratch on their finger and become infected. Do you also consider finger sex unsafe sex?

Response from Mr. Sowadsky

Hi. Thank you for your question. Put very simply, if you have fresh open cuts or open sores on your hands when fingering (or fisting) someone, it is suggested that you use latex or vinyl gloves. These gloves are inexpensive, widely available, and are sold at most pharmacies and drug stores.

If you have any further questions, please feel free to call the Centers for Disease Control at 1.800.232.4636 (Nationwide).
