Response from Mr. Sowadsky
Hi. Thank you for your question. In the United States, issues like HIV/STD prevention are handled both at the federal level, and the state level as well. Each state handles prevention efforts differently. To find out what is being done at the state level where you live, you will need to contact your state's HIV program, and the STD program as well. These programs are usually coordinated through the administrative offices of your state's health department. These offices are most often located in capital city of your state (the phone numbers can often be found in the government section of your local phone book). You can also contact your local AIDS hotline to find out what prevention efforts are being done in your state. To find the number of your local AIDS hotline, visit the Hotlines and Service Organizations page of this website. For the state of Florida specifically, contact: Bureau of HIV/AIDS Telephone: 850-488-9766 Bureau of Sexually Transmitted Diseases Telephone: 850-487-3684 Both of these offices are located in Tallahassee, the state capital. You may also want to visit the Florida Department of Health AIDS website at http://www.state.fl.us/health/aids/. The phone number for the Florida AIDS Hotline is 1-800-FLA-AIDS. For information on prevention efforts at the federal level, contact the National AIDS Clearinghouse at 1-800-458-5231, or visit their website at http://www.cdcnac.org/. If you have any further questions, please feel free to call the Centers for Disease Control at 1.800.232.4636 (Nationwide). | |||||||||
