Dr. Kull, I like your work, it is of great service. My question is what are the possbilities of contracting HIV through someone sticking you with a needle at a party, concert, etc. And are there any confirmed cases of this actually happening? Thank you for you time

Response from Mr. Kull

There are no confirmed cases of HIV transmission through accidental contact with injection or other forms of needles outside of the healthcare setting. The time between transmission from one person to another needs to be very brief. HIV has a very short life outside of its host. See http://www.thebody.com/cdc/survival.html for more info.
