condom reuse?
Nov 4, 2001

I'm e-mailing for a friend, He recently found a opened, unrolled condom. He said it was there for about 2 days or more, for some reason, he decided to try it on. He took it, turned it inside out (nothing was there, just a little wet and some white spots that were stuck to the condom), then he washed it in saltwater twice. Then put it on, and masterbated. Will he get aids?

Response from Mr. Kull

There is no risk of HIV transmission in the episode you describe. HIV will not survive on inanimate objects for very long, and definitely not for two days. HIV needs to be inside of a human body in order to survive; exposure to the environment decreases the virus' ability to infect cells rapidly. Washing the condom in salt water would have no significance at that point.

See "Survival of HIV in the Environment" for more information (http://www.thebody.com/cdc/survival.html).
