3rd generation Elisa??????
Oct 14, 2001
DEAR RYAN,PLEASE ANSWER- I have been testing for HIV for exactly 5 months. My doctor has been using the ELISA and PCRS all have come back negative.I thought the Elisas would be 3rd or 4th Generation-THEY ARE NOT.THEY ARE ONLY 1ST GENERATION-MY DOCTOR CALLED QUEST WHERE THE TESTS ARE BEING PREFORMED AND THEY ONLY OFFER ONE TYPE OF ANTIBODY SCREENING-ELISA 1ST GENERATION.PLEASE TELL ME WHERE CAN I FIND 3RD GENERATION ELISA???? THANK YOU THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT
Response from Mr. Kull
It is not necessary to perform a third generation ELISA at this point. A first generation ELISA performed repeatedly over five months following exposure is sufficient. The majority of people will still develop a detectable level of antibodies, as measured by earlier generation ELISAs, within three months of infection.
